Downstrokes Strumming: Pattern #1

Updated: Sep 7, 2019

For this pattern, you will do downstrokes only.

This pattern is great for upbeat songs like Matt Redman's Blessed be Your name.

It goes 'ACCENT soft soft ACCENT soft soft ACCENT soft'.

If you can manage it, try to count along as you strum: 'ONE and two AND three and FOUR and'.

Challenge 1: Practice it until you can do 4 repeats without stopping or making a mistake.

Challenge 2: Repeat the pattern 4 times for each of the following chords.

Challenge 3: Let's try it out with the actual song. Verse 1 only. Start slow, okay then slowly build up the speed.

Where you see a chord, that's where you strum the first downstroke of the pattern.

Here's Verse 1 of the song.

*Tip: Listen to the song and feel the rhythm.

Challenge 4: How about the whole song?

You can play along with the backing track here.

Did you do well? Good job!

If you struggled, no worries. Keep practicing until you nail down the song.

If you are thinking what other songs you can use this pattern with, then try these songs.

Arise - Don Moen

By Your side - Hillsong

Celebrate Jesus celebrate - Don Moen

Come, Now is the time to worship - Vineyard Worship
